What is Primary Care

Primary care is the foundation of Ontario's health care system and is often the first point of access to health care services for individuals.

Primary care:

  • Supports people at every stage of life
  • Provides comprehensive care that promotes health and well-being
  • Connects patients to specialists and other resources when needed
  • Prevents, identifies and treats illnesses

Provincial Mandate: By 2029, 100% of people in Ontario will be connected to a family doctor or nurse practitioner working in a publicly funded team, so they can receive ongoing and convenient care.

The North Simcoe Primary Care Network (PCN) brings together all 44 family doctors and nurse practitioners working in our community. They work closely with community services, health care agencies, hospice and the hospital to make care easy to access, well coordinated and of the highest standard. The PCN is a voting member of the North Simcoe OHT's Anchor Council, helping to shape how care is planned and delivered in our region.
